Reflexology
GRID OF HISTORY:
It is also known as acupressure of the foot. It is the
science or study of reflexes. Years before reflexology
evolved to its present popularity, in Europe it was known as
'zone therapy. It was first introduced to America by Dr.
Fitzgerald in 1910. He discovered that by applying finger
pressure on specific points on the mouth and hands numbness
resulted, which in turn alleviated certain symptoms in the
body.
EVALUATING THROUGH THE GRID OF FAITH:
Similar to qigong, reflexology is rooted in Taoism. It
majors in the ancient concept that the organs in the body
represent the microcosm and the body the macrocosm. So based
on this principle, the focus of reflexology is on the foot -
the microcosm manifesting the condition of the whole body.
So by examining the foot the practitioner can detect the
disease or disorder in the body.
EVALUATING THROUGH THE WHOLISTIC GRID:
It is believed that there is a networking of circuits that
connect to every organ, gland and nerve in the body. And
they begin/end at the hands and the feet. However these
channels or meridians for the last 2000 over years have
managed to escape scientific detection. In reflexology, the
foot is examined for blocked energy. The evidence of this
blocked energy is found in crystalline deposits under the
skin of the foot. The foot is massaged in such a way that
the crystal deposit is coaxed to dissolve. This indicates
that the energy flow has been restored and that the disease
has left.
Similar to reflexology is reflexotherapy. In this modality
it is not the networking of energy flowing through channels,
but specific points in the body that have connecting nerves
that are stimulated to influence other parts of the body.
EVALUATING THROUGH THE GRID OF SCIENCE:
Through touch both reflexology and reflexotherapy attempt to
discover abnormalities in the body. There is a standard
chart to be referred to that has mapped out the pathways to
the different organs of the body. Both these methods have
yet to gain scientific credibility. And when these
practitioners were put to the test for accuracy in detecting
disease in patients who were already receiving conventional
medical treatments, they failed to accurately diagnose the
illness that the patients were suffering from.
EVALUATING THROUGH THE GRID OF SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT:
Besides contributing to relaxation after a good foot
massage, there is no scientific evidence coming forth to
prove that disease can be diagnosed and treated effectively
by examining the foot. This practice is based on the Taoist
principle of microcosm and macrocosm which is rooted in the
occult. The danger lies in the practitioner's reliance on
divination to aid him in his diagnosis and the cure that is
administered via qi energy.
I John 4:1 We are warned not to believe every spirit but to
test the spirits to see if they are from God, as many false
prophets have gone out into the world.
We need to exercise caution as to who we consent to touch
us, as touch relates to intimacy. Trust has to be
established before we permit anyone to touch us. When this
basic principle is side-stepped, we tend to become less
discerning and spiritually de-sensitised - opening ourselves
to deeper spiritual bondage.
